Q: hotmail account problems
Hi,
apple mail : I have 2 hotmail accounts. 1 is working fine.
The other not so much : I keep getting a message to enter your password for this hotmaill Account in Internet accounts. And every time I try to type the password it does give an error - unable to verify the account name or password....
I am able to log into hotmail webpage with the same credentials - and it works fine.
- like I said the other account for Hotmail is working fine also.
- I also tried to retype the same Account name and password in Apple Mail - and it saves the data but I cannot get it to go online either– It keeps failing.
Question: any ideas how to fix this? The problem seemed to arise when I did the latest El Capitan update 10. 11. 5.

I can understand wanting to be sure all Mail accounts are working properly on my Mac well. Since the app keeps asking for you to enter the password for the one Hotmail account, you might want to try this: If Mail on your Mac keeps asking for your password Specifically, check out the options on the bottom.
Your email provider may reject your password for several reasons, including:
- You're not using your current email password. If you updated the password on another device, make sure that you're using the same password on this device.
- Your email provider needs you to update or reset your password for security reasons. For example, if you turned on Google’s two-step verification, your Gmail account in Mail now requires the appropriate app password.
- Your email provider deactivated or suspended your account. Contact your email provider for help.
Another option that might help is to remove the account and then add it back. To remove:
Remove an account
When you remove an email account from Mail, the account’s messages are deleted and no longer available on your Mac. Copies of messages remain on the account’s mail server and are still available (from webmail, for example).
Important: If you’re unsure whether messages you want to keep are still on the mail server, move or copy them to a mailbox stored on your Mac (the mailbox appears in the On My Mac section in the Mail sidebar) before you delete the account in Mail.
Once you've removed the account, add it back:
To add another account, choose Mail > Add Account, select an account type, then enter your account information. Make sure the Mail checkbox is selected for the account.
