    that says, " I found the boot drive, but when I tried to load stuff from there, it was missing or damaged."

     

    You will need to re-Install Mac OS X. If your recovery partition is working, and your drive passes a Disk Utility Repair Disk or First Aid, you can attempt a re-Install in-place. By design this rewrites the individual files that make up Mac OS, and does not bulk-erase anything.
