Q: PLease help locked out of my own phone!! Activation lock?!? Huh????

IPhone 4S, bought when they were brand new. I ve had it forever, great condition. So I try to use it, and it states it cannot:

the sim that you currently have installed is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server......

Yada Yada!!!

Oh wait, let me go a little further back. When I turned it on after at least a year of not using, it says it cant do Wi-Fi? then it stated it was a 3G? I was like no way, its lost its mind. Ok no problem ill reset it in iTunes. After plug in, iTunes says it cannot locate the phone even though its plugged in and talking to iTunes?!?!?

Of course first I start cussing about ATT and how they totally screwed me, how can they lock my phone after I had years of service through them and didn't upgrade well after me contract was up. Went through tons of community posts, mostly about international phones. I was like, seriously this phine hasn't left the state of CA, ***???

I send out a request to ATT to unlock, but wait, they are only locking to carriers, I cant get it past the language?!?

So after many more hours of reading and reading, I put it together that its got to be the FIND MY IPHONE ACTIVATION LOCK, ( I put in caps hoping if someone is like me, maybe it'll be easier to find, not so many hours of weeding, sorry)

Any one know how I can turn it off? I don't wish to sell my phone of anything, I just want to be able to use it until I can go through the next super expensive purchase of another Apple iPhone. Loyal customer since iPhone 3GS which I also bought at prime release. I have never needed apple support before, they always just worked.

I am super depressed here without my appendage, please help!!!!
