Jun 7, 2016 11:36 PM in response to Lost in IOSby theratter,They work fine for me on the same model you have. You might try:
Install Yosemite or El Capitan from Scratch
- Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears.
- Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.
- When Disk Utility loads select the volume (indented entry, usually Macintosh HD) from the side list.
- Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
- Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
- Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.
- Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
- Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

Jun 9, 2016 11:42 PM in response to theratterby Lost in IOS,This sounds suspiciously like erasing and /or reformatting the hard drive! I'm relatively new to Apple so please forgive if I'm bringing up an inane topic. For fairly obvious reasons I would prefer not to revert to the original factory format as I have been using this machine for almost five years now. Where can I read more about what you are suggesting?
Thanks for your response.

Jun 9, 2016 11:57 PM in response to Lost in IOSby appreciate,Third party malicious app installed or if the user is not closing the lid and continuously using the system for days , kernel panics etc are some reasons of web browser freezing .
If mail is not working its better to take back up of all mails , delete the old IMAP account and rebuild the new map account .
Go in safe mode and run SMC and PRAM .

Jun 10, 2016 12:12 AM in response to appreciateby Lost in IOS,Please decipher SMC, PRAM and "kernel panics etc". I have already deleted all my email accounts and "rebuilt" all of them; no noticeable difference except that Apple Mail seems not too work far more consistently. I do have a tendency to not turn off (reboot) the system for long periods of time. I don't generally leave the lid up, although I probably have on one or two occasions.
