internal speakers are not working

I have a MacBook Pro mid 2009, with OS X El Capitan installed. My internal speakers are not working. The only option for sound in the sound setting is Digital Out. Do you have any suggestions other than connecting external speakers? At this time no cables other than the power cord are attached to the computer. I was having this problem before installing El Capitan last night.

Sounds like maybe the micro-switch in-side of the Audio-output (Headphone) jack is stuck.

Try plugging-in and then un-plugging a set of headphones or buds to see if the sound preference will reset back to Internal Speakers. If not, then you will need to take your Mac in for service as per > Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs - Apple Support
