2 slots for ram or I can use only one slot ?

Hello ..

Iv'e bought 8gb ram for my MBP 2012 which has 4gb memory,,


But I totally forgot that it has 2 slots for the ram !

so can I use only one slot ? or I have to buy another ram?

Having only one one slot with a RAM module will allow the MBP to still operate but there will be a performance decrease as compared to both slots being occupied by the same total amount of RAM. To extract maximum performance base on the RAM modules that you have, follow padams35's advice and install RAM in both slots.


A 2012 MBP will accept up to 16 GB RAM with the following specifications: 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM. The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.
