Q: My 2015 MacBook: Different Kinds of USB-C (USB-C Certified LG)? 27" LG 4K
So I bought an LG 27" 4K monitor with USB-C for my 2015 MacBook. The MacBook rocks by the way.
IT WORKS: With the supplied USB-C cable everything works perfectly: 1. The MacBook LG combo gives a stunning 4K image to the monitor just by plugging in the supplied USB-C cable, amazingly easy set up and instant recognition by the MacBook and you've got an extra 27" of 4K real estate. 2. Simultaneously, the MacBook charges from the cable. 3. Simultaneously you can plug devices into the monitors USB ports and access their content from your MacBook. 1-3 all happen at the same time - simple and fully functional! Great! But hold on.
THE ISSUE: Apple's USB cable will NOT work except to provide power. You have to use a USB-C Certified such as a Belkin to get all of this simultaneous functionality. Is this because Apple's cable does not utilize all 24 pins in the cable and they are using part of the USB-C capabilities to provide a charging cable?
What is the story here? Thank you.
