From your post, I'm understanding that the Spotlight search feature on your iPad does not return results if you type more than one word. It should, and I have some information and troubleshooting to help with that.
If you've made any changes to the Spotlight search, but aren't sure exactly what you changed, you can reset your iPad's settings back to factory defaults by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This will remove any changes you've made, and also address any hiccups in the Spotlight search settings preventing it from working as expected.
Doing this step will not remove any of your content from the iPad, but it will revert all of your settings (wallpaper, alert sounds, display & brightness, etc) back to their factory defaults. It will also remove any saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, and VPN or APN settings you may have used.
