Facetime 1.1.1 not logging in (wrong password alert).

I just updated my Macbook 3,1 from Snow Leopard to Lion. I tried to activate FaceTime but the software tells me I am typing the wrong Apple ID password.

I have tried with another account (my wife's one) and I can login successfully.

The difference between my account and her is that I have 2FA actived while she has not.

I tried to add again (it was already) my Apple ID to my local user (System Pref -> Users and groups -> <my user> -> Apple ID).

I can use it successfully to load iCloud data on my Macbook. It works the same by my iPhone and iPad. I just think FaceTime is not working fine with a 2FA account.

Is there a workaround? Will I have to deactivate 2FA to make FaceTime work on OSX 10.7.5?

Hi P|xeL!

I can understand you're trying to use two-factor authentication on your Mac which has Lion installed, and I'm happy to go over some information for you. Two-factor authentication requires OS X El Capitan and iTunes 12.3, as you can see in the system requirements listed in this article:

Two-factor authentication for Apple ID

However, you still are able to sign in to your Apple ID on these older devices. You will just need to append the 6 digit code that appears on one of your trusted devices to the end of your Apple ID password when signing in. On devices that fit the requirements for two-factor authentication, this isn't needed.

What if I use two-factor authentication on a device running older software?

If you use two-factor authentication with devices running older OS versions, you might be asked to add your six-digit verification code to the end of your password when signing in. Get your verification code from a trusted device running iOS 9 or OS X El Capitan, or have it sent to your trusted phone number. Then type your password followed by the six-digit verification code directly into the password field.

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities.

Cheers!

I have tried as you suggested with no success.

I have tried to login to iCloud.com and I was asked for a 4 digit security code. I received it on my iPhone and I quickly tried to append it to the password in FaceTime (version 1.1.1). Unfortunately the software still tells me I did not insert the right password and won't let me to log in.

I don't know how to get a 6 digit 2FA. I always receive a 4 digit temporary code.

What can I do?

I have updated Apple's 2FA to the newer version (it turns out that 2FA is not updated silently but you have to deactivate the first release and activate 2FA again to be enabled with the latest release…) and now I have a 6 digits code.

When I try to login with <password><6-digits-code> in the password field it seems like the login process is able to log me in: I am prompted to select the e-mail my friends will have to use to FaceTime me. When finally click on "Next" the login GUI comes back with an alert: "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later.".

I have googled for that issue and I have already tried:

- the "hosts" solution (a reset of the hosts file)

- the time/date solution (change 24h to am/pm visualization or enable the local time monitoring based on location…)

Both did not solved the issue.
