Q: Why does Apple NOT provide HDCP support for (non Apple) display monitor that supports HDCP

I have Mac Mini (Mid 2011) using Vizio TV (that support HDCP) to access VUDU (HDX)

Keep getting error msg that both display and output has to support HDCP

I Verified that my monitor is HDCP compliant because VDU app on my VIzio plays movies in

HDX.

Most OSX mac are said to be HDCP capable.

Please help

    Hi all,

Thanks to everyone for taking part and sharing your ideas.

My problem is with my Pioneer A/V that's the hub of my setup.

Removing it and connecting Mac Mini directly to Vizio solves HDCP compliant issue.

However, I'll put up with A/V as hub for now and look to upgrade my Pioneer a?v to something new

later this year or next year.

    Thanks again to everyone.

think the majority of apple users with external monitors use non apple monitors be it MacBooks or iMacs or mac minis or mac pros

mine is a asus 27" vg27a connected by dvi, before that an 24" dell connected by dvi before that a samsung 19" connected by dvi

have not had hdcp issues so far

Ensuring DVI is HDCP compliant can even be more difficult than HDMI. As UHD/4K material becomes more prevalent, and streaming sources work harder to protect their content, HDCP will become a bigger issue. Moving forward HDMI and DisplayPort will be the best bet for HDCP protected material, though I rarely if ever play it on my monitors.

granted by the so far I've been lucky also when this current monitor also has two hdmi ports it would be poor engineering if they had put on a dvi implementation which did not
