Q: MacBook Pro heats up while on standby and runs its battery to death...anyone have a similar issue?

I bought my MacBook about 2 and a half years ago, and about a year and a half in, it started to heat up (to the point where it would be extremely hot to the touch) by itself while on standby. It would then run itself until the battery died. I've gotten several repairs done that did not solve the problem. I was told that the ultimate solution would be to wipe the entire laptop, which I did. The problem persists and no one from Apple has been able to help me. Thoughts/suggestions?
