Q: Stolen iPhone- do I need a new Apple ID?
Phone was stolen today. It still says "offline" and I've set up an erase request but its still pending. pretty sure ill never see the phone again but my bigger concern is the following:
if when i buy a new iPhone and set it up on my icloud- will that automatically cancel my "erase" request with the stolen phone? therefore allowing the thieves to enter the phone and retrieve any and all info they want (bank info, ect...). apple told me to NOT erase that device from my apple ID, and the make a new apple ID with my new phone, and that i can erase that apple id once i see that the phone was activated and erased.
confused. help!

You will not need a new Apple ID. Adding your Apple ID to a new iPhone will not cancel any commands made for your other iPhone. The single representative that gave you the advice of creating a new Apple ID was wrong to encourage you to do so. https://appleid.apple.com/faq
How many Apple IDs do I need?
Just one. Use the same Apple ID everywhere you sign in to ensure that all your Apple services and devices work together seamlessly and you can access your personal content from all your devices.
If you still have access to your present account, and you have prompted an erase on the other iPhone there is no means for someone in possession of it to gain access to your email account. For extra precaution, it wouldn't be a bad idea to update the security on your account though, if you have not already done so.
