Q: Contact name syncing

Can anyone help me get my iPhone contact names to transfer to my iMessenger on my Mac?  I can only see the phone numbers and not the names on my Mac. My iCloud is working for syncing other things but not this. Thank you!

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

    1. Please export your contacts directly from icloud.com to a file for safekeeping.

    2. Back up all data.

    3. Open the iCloud pane in System Preferences. Verify that you're signed in with your usual Apple ID. Uncheck the box marked Contacts. When prompted to confirm, select

              Delete From Mac

The contacts will still be on iCloud and on any other devices that sync with the same account. Leave the preference pane open.

    4. Launch the Contacts application and verify that your iCloud contacts have been removed. If you keep all your contacts on iCloud, the database should now be empty.

    5. In the iCloud preference pane, re-check the Contacts box and close the window. The contacts should reappear within a few seconds, if you're connected to the Internet. Otherwise, stop here and post your results.

    Hi,

    Variants.

iCloud may not be the method you sue to Sync the Contacts lists

On the Mac in System Preferences > Internet Accounts many may be able to offer syncing of Contacts and it does seem the El Capitan turns All of them On.

Another way to check is to go to Contacts > Preferences > Accounts.

If Multiple options are Enabled turn them Off.

Use the same one the iPhone is using.

Doing it here will turn them Off in Internet Accounts.

Also make sure on the iPhone > Settings Mail, Calendar and Contacts that it is not set to On my iPhone.

    Dear Ralph,

I very much appreciate your advice that clearly and concisely described what I needed to do to transfer my contact names from my iPhone to my Mac Messages so I could know who sent texts when I 'm on my computer, but when it transferred my contacts from facebook, it also brought photos of my contacts to my phone and computer.

    Thank you so much!

    Meredith
