Q: question about iCloud and photos

I have over 7,000 photos on my iPhone.  Can I delete photos from my iPhone but keep them in Photos on my MacBook Pro if iCloud is turned on?  I want to save these photos I just don't want them taking up space on my iPhone.

I am in a similar situation. I have over 10k photos in my library, and I use the Optimized Storage option in iCloud Photo Library to allow me to have access to view my total library without having to micromanage my storage. This is not an archive service though, so if you delete any photos or videos that are managed by it on your Mac or on your iPhone, they will be deleted across your devices the same way your Contacts would be.

Alternatively, you can import the old fashioned way and delete what you no longer want to keep on your iPhone after the fact.
