Can't find imported clips on iMovie 10.1.2

I'm sure I imported some crucial video clips for a work project into iMovie 10.1.2 on my MacBook Pro, but now I can't find them. I find the latest iMovie interface confusing. I've looked through the Events that I have but I don't see these clips. They're no longer on my SD card because I erased it to clear up room. I know the date the clips were recorded...not sure how I can use that to find them.

Does anyone have any tips on where I might look? I really need these clips for my job. Thanks for your help!

Hi, MrNakamachi,

The imported clips should be in your iMovie library. When you click on iMovie Library in media view, all of your clips will be displayed. From the View menu at the top of your screen you can organize them by date, ascending or descending, and that would help you locate them by scrolling the clips in the iMovie Library pane. If you know a clip's name, you also can search by name in the search field (the little Q at the top of the Library pane).

Hope this helps.

Hmmmm. It is possible that your import from the SD card failed. Awful thought, I know.

You can certainly try searching in the finder by date created or kind (videos), or by any other search perameters you can think of. Possibly something may turn up. Also, you can try right-clicking on the iMovie Library file in your Movies folder in the finder, and clicking on Package Contents. You can poke around in the folders in there to see if you can find anything -- but don't change or remove anything in those folders or you could mess up the structures of iMovie.

If the data is really crucial, you might be able to retrieve it from the SD with recovery software.

Hopefully other contributors to this forum will weigh in. At this point, I can't think of anything more to add.

Found mine! I know it's been 4 months, but if you haven't found yours and you haven't deleted anything... I have about 25 events, and I found my imported media in one of those events. It was called "clip #12" and I have no idea why or how it got put into an old pre-existing event. Maybe that event was selected when I did the import and it just went in there? Anyway, good luck.
