Q: Archiving an iPhone back up

Dear Community,

 

What does "Archiving the iPhone back up" do?

I mean, there is already a back up file somewhere. What is the use of Archiving it? What is the best practice?

    Thanks so much for bringing your question to the Apple Support Community.  You asked what archiving an iPhone backup does and I'm happy to answer your question.

     

    Archiving an iPhone backup prevents it from being overwritten when you later create a new backup.  I have an article below that will give you more information on the process.

     

    About iOS beta software

     

    While this article primarily refers to archiving backups in relation to those who use our beta software, it's not a bad idea if you're concerned about your data.
