Yes - you can use a cloud service like iCloud or OneDrive which will mirror your files - in other words - iCloud exists as a folder on your devices as well on Apple servers. So the files you work on on the MBP are synced with the Apple servers and also update on your iMac when both machines are on and connected to the network - oh by the way - you do not have to be connected to the same network - as long as both devices are connected to the internet - the update will happen

I need to learn if this exchange is possible without the need of pen drive? both iMac & Macbook pro are on the same network.
Since they are both on the same network, you can enable File Sharing and Share the Public folder for each user.

Jun 10, 2016 7:57 AM in response to keg55by Raj Vardhan Varma,Thanks keg55, that was truly helpful, but I was looking for something like - as soon as both the computers log on to the same network, they start syncing only the Documents folder automatically. Although I fully appreciate your suggested method.
Kind Regards

Oh I see now.
Unfortunately, the different cloud solutions might be best as these would sync immediately. I use Dropbox. I don't have much I need/want to store in a cloud so the 6GB I have for that is plenty. And all my Macs that log into Dropbox sync.

Jun 10, 2016 11:36 AM in response to Raj Vardhan Varmaby ColinY,I use DropBox to autosave photos from my iPhone to Drop Box and Automator to upload from DropBox to an import folder in Photos.
When I want to transfer data between MBPs and IMac I use AirDrop. Its very easy!
