Q: Recent Screen Sharing update in Yosemite blanks our screen when you disconnect

We have a MacPro 3,1 that has 2 monitors that are normally mirrored - one is a 1900x1200 Dell panel (DVI) and the other is our Sony Bravia HDTV (connected via VGA). We play videos, iTunes, sort photos, etc together on the big Sony display in the comfort of the Living Room by connecting to the MacPro from our MacBook Pro (early 2011 17" MacOS 10.6.8) via Screen Sharing. Previously this had worked fine and we could put on a movie or a slideshow of photos and disconnect the laptop from the MacPro and it wold keep going with no problem.

Now when we disconnect Screen Sharing the Sony goes blank and reports "No PC Signal".

If we truck into the computer room and goose the MacPro (wiggle the mouse, tap the keyboard, etc) the Sony comes back to life as if nothing had happened.

The only change that I can place between "everything worked fine" and "drops signal to VGA port" is the Screen Sharing update.

I'm at work at the moment so I can't report the exact name and version of the update. Apple Remote Desktop perhaps.... I will update this when I get home this morning. I will also try it with a monitor other than the TV, but we don't have one with HD resolution.

Suggestions on regaining the start-it-and-leave-it functionality we used to have?

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
