iPhone frozen on startup/restore/recovery

The battery completely drained in my iPhone 5. When I charged it a bit and tried to start it got stuck at apple logo.

Tried a few times - same issue.

Then I tried to restore it (rest + home, release reset and keep home until iTunes icon appears). During "Waiting for iPhone" state in iTunes white apple logo appears and as soon as the loading icon shows up on the phone, it gets stuck too (doesn't rotate).

Then I tried to do the same in recovery mode (power button 3 sec, power button + home button 10 sec, release power button 15sec). Recovery mode detected in itunes, but as soon as I started the restore, same thing as above happened - Apple logo and progress icon stuck (not rotating). After a while iTunes reports error (no response from the phone).

No other way to fix it myself? Do I have to send it for a repair? Is it hardware issue?

Hi.

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on this device.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
Press and hold on the Home button
Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

If this does not help, restore your device to factory settings. Note that this will erase the data from your device.

As a final step, try the recovery mode. Turn your device off, then plug it to your computer with the home button pressed. Keep the Home button pressed until you see the iTunes logo on the screen of your device. After that on your computer you should see the iTunes window saying your device needs to be restored to factory settings. Click on the restore button.
