Q: Bluetooth Speaker -- No Sound
Problem: No sound output to bluetooth speaker.
Computer: mid-2012 MacBook Pro. El Capitan 10.11.5 installed two weeks ago.
Situation: Sony SRS-X3 speakers connect to Bluetooth fine, but sound goes to laptop speakers. System profiler shows correct information:
Apple Bluetooth Software Version: 4.4.5f3 17904

The speakers have worked correctly between the El Capitan update two weeks ago and today. I haven't made any system changes since then.
The Sound Preferences pane shows only internal speakers as an output option. The computer is working properly in all other respects.
I have tried rebooting, resetting the NVRAM, plugging in headphones, and resetting Bluetooth via the debug menu. It seems the problem's primary symptom is the absence of Bluetooth as an output option on the Sound Preferences pane, but I haven't been able to find any discussions about that. (I'm assuming that Bluetooth speakers would show up as an option, although Sound Preference pane help doesn't mention it.)
