How can I best dispose of a strawberry iMac (ppc) that was last used eight years ago?

I have a strawberry-colored iMac (ppc) that was last used about eight years ago and has been in storage since. It was working when put away, and I hat to just dump it as garbage. I'm in chicago, so what are my options. I can't afford to ship it.

Ordinarily, I'd suggest removing the hard drive or reformatting it with the "write zeros" option to erase and overwrite the data on it. If you don't have files on it that contain personal information, have you checked as to whether Chicago or the surrounding municipalities have e-cycling programs for proper disposal of older computer hardware? Many large cities have such programs in effect, to eliminate the disposal of what's deemed "hazardous waste" into the landfills.
