Q: Messages Disappeared But Still Using Storage Space?

I opened up my Messages app yesterday to find that all of my messages were gone. I tried restarting and resetting to no avail. Attempted to reset all settings, but this also did not resolve the issue. The messages were there in the morning, and when I looked again later in the day, everything was gone. When I check the Storage Usage, it indicates that I still have 2.5GB of saved messages on the phone.

This may be unrelated, but a few hours later, all of my synced music disappeared and needed to be redownloaded.

I've been able to get the music back, but the messages are still gone and the storage space is still being used. I tried to restore a backup, but received an error message that there was insufficient space on the phone to perform a restore. I currently have 1.5GB of free space, per the Storage Usage GUI.

Anyone have any suggestions or experienced a similar issue in the past? I would really prefer not to restore as new, but it's looking like it may be my only option, if I'm suffering from a corrupted iOS.

I'm running iOS 9.3.2 on an iPhone 5S.
