Create another user (Spanish) in login page

Hi fellow El Capitan users,

I am participating in the Spanish Apple Support Communities.

I want to create another User space on my computer. When I start my computer (MacBook Pro, mid 2012, OS X 10.11.5) I see my name (where I click to log in as normal) and Guest User.

If I click on Guest User, can I change to System Preferences > Language & Region > Español without changing my Admin space to Español?

With an Español user space, I hope to open apps such as Numbers and Pages in Español for Español screen shots. When I return to my Admin space, I hope I see English.

Sorry for this dumb question, but I once changed my Admin language to Hebrew to test right-to-left text and it scared the ess aitch eye tea out of me trying to get back to English.

Regards,

Ian.

P.S. I know how to add a language (the + button) 🙂.

Hi Yellowbox!

I've just tried what you suggest but the other way round (Spanish admin and English guest), and it didn't work. I logged in the guest account and switched language to English, but after logging in with my main user account there was a mixed Spanish-English interface. All those settings disappeared after a restart, and everything was back to Spanish, including the guest user 😟.

It's really a shame, because that feature would be useful for me too. Sometimes it's a bit hard to answer questions in English while working on a Spanish interface 😁

Just for kicks I tried this too.

Yup, the "Language" seems to be only at the OS Level, not individually changeable on differing per user basis.

One workaround, if I were forced, would be to run another copy of Mac OSX in a VM, and pop open that windowed session on an as needed basis, so that I could instantly switch back to my real personal account in one click, for speed and efficiency in a workday.

Hi mende and askmrmac,

Many thanks for your replies. I don't want to venture into VM. That would confuse me more!

I will try swapping between English and Spanish in my main user account.

I use Google Translate for the text, but I want Spanish screen shots. I consider it rude to show English screen shots in a Spanish forum 😊.

Regards,

Ian.

Hola Mende y askmrmac,

Saludos,

Ian.

For that purpose, you can normally just move Spanish to the top of your language list but not restart. All apps should then open in Spanish while the OS stays in English. Then close the apps and move Spanish back down the list. All apps should then open in English.

There is also an app called Language Switcher which will open apps in any language without changing the OS language. I have not yet tried it in El Capitan however.

Thank you!

Here is a screen shot of a Numbers document with System Preferences > Language & Region > Spanish at the top (no restart)

Just what I need!

(I must remember to translate Sheet 1 to Hoja 1 and Table 1 to Tabla 1 (Mesa 1?) before I take a screen shot).

System Preferences Language & Region > English at the top (no restart)

Quit and reopen Numbers

Ian.
