Q: UNPREDICTABLE BATTERY LIFE

So, I have been having a problem with my iPhone 6 for the past few weeks now. I have had this phone since approximately October 2015 and have never had an issue with it as I was pleasantly pleased with this product UNTIL NOW!

I can have my phone fully charged at 100% and within an hour or 2 depending if I am using it for ANY purpose it will completely die at 20-40% but never 0% When I go to plug it back up it gets back to where it left off.  I've tried restarting it but that picture of the wire shows up to tell me to plug it back in.

Example, I am at my desk listening to a podcast and the battery was just at 97%.  I get in the elevator, go downstairs and get outside and now it is at 74%. As I am outside on my break it jumps to 42% and moments later shuts off with the picture to plug it back in.  I come back upstairs to plug it in and when it turns on it shows it at 70%.  I am not using any apps that would drain my battery.  My settings are set for minimal usage with background refresh, air drop, etc.

This is EXTREMELY frustrating as this just started and is quickly getting progressively worse forcing me to use not one but TWO external batteries that I carry on me at all times.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.2

Your best course of action is to get to an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Apple Store to have diagnostics run. Diagnostics at an AASP will tell you in moments if you are dealing with a hardware issue, or software. Also, diagnostics can be run telling you exactly what processes / programs are using the battery.

That being said, a restore generally solves battery issues. There is one caveat : restore as a new iPhone. If you restore from a recent backup you are proving nothing and generally just wasting time. Use the iPhone for a while after you have downloaded a few apps you use most frequently. If battery life is to your liking, then you have solved your issue. If it isn't, then the battery itself may be failing. The only way to tell for certain is to have diagnostics run on your iPhone.

    I hope this helps you!

All rechargeable batteries have a limited lifespan and may eventually need to be serviced or recycled. Your own battery’s lifespan will vary depending on how you use your device as well as the settings you choose for it.

Your battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles. The one-year warranty includes service coverage for a defective battery. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery service for $79, plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax.

You are presently in warranty, so if you would like, you can have your battery diagnosed by Apple in store or over the phone. They can prompt a diagnostic test on the iPhone with you. Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

If they find the battery to have an expected charge, that means your issue is coming from something else. This could be some software that is mistakenly asking more from your phone than it should need to and this is draining your battery. It could be recent settings that might have been toggled. It may be related to environmental issues with your cell coverage at certain locations or hours of the day. This article can help with some settings that may save you a good amount of battery life in the day. http://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/

If it comes down to being an issue with your hardware, remember that that is what your warranty is there for. Apple will, of course, want to verify that that is going to actually resolve your issue before asking you to go through the hassle of shipment or having a walk-in appointment to replace your battery only for you to find out that the issue was something else all along.

Yes this does.  The only issue I am running into is I have been trying to back up all of my into to the cloud which I have 1TB and the phone will be in the process for hours as well on my laptop and almost 3/4 of the way the I will get a prompt that says unable to back up

I have a feeling that I will have to loose all of my necessary things that I haven't backed up to my drop box.

Do you possibly have access to a computer with iTunes on it?

    Don't believe this...

If that sounds about right it's time to have the battery replaced. That is what worked for me.

    I Hope that helps.
