Q: Format RAID

I want to move all intensive files off the iMac OS.  My 1TB is almost full from Movies, Music and Pictures.  So I would like all storage to live on the RAID device I purchased.  I purchased a WD My Book Duo 8TB Raid Storage.  What is the best way to format?  Then, what is the best way to move the files so that when I add more music, pics, ext it goes to the RAID?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

Your post isn't explicit however I will explain how to move libraries from iTunes, iMovie, etc... First close the app, for example iTunes.  Locate the App's library and copy and paste to the new location. Then double click the library in the new location that will teach the app where the library is now located. Then move the old locations's library to the Trash and empty the Trash.

Basically, I just want to know what the best way to format my WD RAID to the Mac is?  Erase first then what?  I am really not sure because there are so many different articles out there and they are all different.
