my phone is not charging

1. Charged phone last night died today at 3pm
2. tired to restart phone by pressing the home and sleep button at the same time(apple icon popped up and then disappear)
3. at times the itunes icon pops up

not sure what else todo has been trying to charge it for 30 mins
