Q: "an error in encoding" with iDVD

This occurs just before the burn of the movie has been completed.  I have never had this problem previously.  Why does it happen and how

can the source of the problem be determined and then corrected?  I spent an entire day trying to get an 18 minute video burned.  Frustrating

since I have burned literally a hundred DVDs without this occurring.  DVDs are still important to many people as DVD players are still used.

Can you help?

Totally frustrated by the time expended for what was a simple procedure.

Read Bengt Wärleby's post in this topic:  Multiplexing Error

Also try following this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Agree completely. I would also add M-DISC to that list. They burn silver, not purple. They're supposed to last for a 1000 years. I'm getting excellent results.
