Q: Refurbished 2012 MacBook Pro Future?

I am currently looking into refurbished Mac laptops as a device to program in XCode on, and use as a school laptop.

My options look to be the 2012 MacBook Pro vs. the 2015 MacBook Air. I prefer the MacBook Pro for its higher specs (better CPU, the ability to expand storage and RAM) and its more extensive I/O (disc drive, ethernet, multiple USB ports, etc.). My only problem with this laptop is the idea that within just a few short years, Apple decides to stop support for the newest version of MacOS on this already older laptop, and since XCode requires the most recent version, I lose the reason I purchased the computer in the first place. Any ideas? Anyone with this problem in the past? Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
