Q: Compressor doesn't recognise updates to FCPX project

When I recently sent an FCPX project to Compressor, I noticed it needed some refinement after it had done its job.

I went back to FCPX and rejigged a few of the clips and sent it on to Compressor again. It spat out the exact same result as the first time - i.e.

none of my edits stuck.

After a few more tries and the same result, I thought to majorly move a few clips around but, Compressor would still revert to the initial version.

Back in FCPX I cleared all the renders, restarted the program and the computer, and guess what - still the same, now infuriating, result.

In frustration, I had to let FCPX do the output work itself. It recognised every little nuance I had changed, but I find it gives a somewhat inferior result to

Compressor, which produces a much smoother video than I can get out of FCPX natively. But that's another question.

Any ideas?

Thanks, in anticipation

Did you delete the Job in Compressor first?

If so, in Compressor, go to Preferences, Advanced, and click the Reset Queue button, and Cancel All Jobs.

    Thanks Ben

I'll have to wait for the next job, to test this out, but sounds like you're on to something.

It'll be a few days before I get to test it fully again, so I'll get back then.

Also, since FCPX and Compressor are using the same compression engine, for most codecs, unless you're resizing or change frame rates, you should see the same results exporting directly in FCPX, or Send To Compressor.  What codec are you exporting?

Are you tweaking settings in Compressor?  If so, make that a preset, and use that to create a custom Destination in FCPX.  Save time.

WWhatever is going on I doubt it has anything to do with Compressor.

WHat kind of project is this? Are you editing In a project timeline or in a clip's timeline? Are you versioning using the duplicate command? Are you working with compound clips?

I'm curious why Compressor would give you smoother pLayback than Final Cut.  What share option did you elect when you exported directly?

    Thanks.

Yes, I realise they're meant to use the same engine, and I do have presets, but lately I've been doing some extra fine tuning in Compressor togged that smoother result.

There's generally a lot of movement in the videos I produce.

Sorry you got me - kind of project?

And I don't understand the difference between project and clips timelines!

The particular video didn't have duplicates or compound clips, although that does happen frequently.

I'm curious about the smoother result too. Would like to understand what's going on. Seems it's something

    particular to my workflow.

"Better Quality" is used for final exports directly from FCPX.

My Libraries imports are mainly 1080p 50fps PAL and the exports are 720p 25fps.

It's the company policy I have to adhere to.

I can't tell what youve tried and what you haven't.

WHen hen you share diresctly from FCP what Share option aee you using? Understand that you're  changing the frame rate and resolution, but unless you have created a custom setting in Compressor FCP should be able to do as well. The quality setting affects the playback not the export.

IS this issue arising on all projects or just this one?
