Q: Unable to add my computer to iTunes Match

I'm running iTunes 12.4.1.6 and OS X 10.11.5 on a mid 2009 13-inch MBP with 8 GB RAM. I subscribed to iTunes Match and am attempting to add my computer to iTunes Match within iTunes. Once I click the "Add This Computer" button and enter my Apple ID password, the button remains disabled and nothing else happens. I've waited as long as an hour:

I have tried this several times. One time, after waiting approximately 10 - 15 minutes, I received the following message:

My internet connection is working properly, and I'm able to successfully connect from iTunes to update my iCloud Music Library with my iTunes Music subscription.

Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), iTunes 12.4.1.6

    Hi,

I suggest that you go to menu > preferences and make sure that you have iCloud Music Library checked.

Thanks for the reply. That has been checked since I enrolled in iTunes Match:

    Hi,

I would seem then that your computer has already been added to iTunes Match. You confirmed that you already able to update your iCloud music library. Are you have any other problem with iTunes match?

If you sign into your account, what do you see under iTunes in the Cloud:

The add this computer appears because this library has not bee added to the cloud. My other computer which I use with iTunes Match does not have add this computer.

Hi. The iCloud Music Library updates that have been successful are with Apple Music, not with iTunes Match. Following is what I see in my account:

The problem I'm having with iTunes Match is that I can't add this computer. When I click the "Add This Computer" button, the process never completes. This computer holds all the music that I want to add, so until I can add it, I don't get any value out of iTunes Match.

    Hi,

Did you subscribe to Match after subscribing to Apple Music? Is the music in your current iTunes Library and if so, what is the iCloud status of that music?

Hi Jim. I subscribed to Apple Music a few weeks before subscribing to iTunes Match. The Apple Music subscription is working properly via iTunes in the Cloud, sharing between this Mac and my iPhone.

I have tried disabling and re-enabling iCloud Music Library on both the Mac and iPhone after having the issues adding my Mac to iTunes Match. That has not helped with iTunes Match. Apple Music continues to work properly.

    Hi,

I suspect that you are not able to add this computer is because your library has already been added to the iCloud - both Apple music and iTunes match use the same iCloud Music Library. I also suspect that many subscribers to Apple Music already had iTunes match before Apple music was introduced.

Have you added your own music to your iTunes library and if so, what is the iCloud status of that music?

Here's an example of the iCloud statuses of one album I imported to my iTunes library from a CD (it was imported more than 10 years ago). This indicates to me that iTunes Match is working to some extent. If I'm understanding it correctly, those that are "Matched" exist in the Apple music catalog, and those that are "Uploaded" don't exist in the Apple music catalog and were therefore uploaded from my device.

What's interesting/confusing is that both of the songs that show "Uploaded" exist in the Apple music catalog.

    Hi,

Your screen shot suggest that iTunes Match is working. What you are seeing is an anomaly where you expect all tracks to match. For whatever reason this is not the case. Read this user tip specifically about matching iTunes Match User Tips (May 2016)

Unless you can show anything different, I think that iTunes Match is working!

Hi Jim, I think you're right. I think the only unresolved item is that the "Add This Computer" functionality isn't working in a user-friendly manner. But my songs are being matched and uploaded, so I'm OK with how it's working. Thanks for your help!
