Jun 12, 2016 5:57 AM in response to charliefromwindomby Tim Lorenzen,For iMessage and FaceTime to work, your iPhone has to send an activation SMS:
If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support
Latest I heard, this SMS is being sent to a U.K. number (in the background - it does not show in Messages, but it is happening) and it's not free of charge. So if for some reason this SMS can't be sent - for example, because your provider is blocking international SMS or you're on a prepaid contract and there is not enough balance - iMessage and FaceTime will not work.
