Apple remote activates iTunes on my computer while I'm trying to navigate Apple TV

So when I try to navigate Apple TV using my apple remote, my computer responds to it even if it's sleeping and the screen is shut. Is there a way I can get the computer to stop responding to the remote? it's very inconvenient when we're trying to watch a movie on the Apple TV and iTunes starts playing on the background, it even goes through the playlist when we use the forward and rewind buttons. It actually starts iTunes even if it was quit beforehand.

iPad Mini, iOS 9.3.1

I think you need to pair the remote with ATV. The problem is that your computer is made to respond to the same Apple remote codes as ATV. See Get help with your Apple Remote - Apple Support for the how-to.

If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System Preferences > Security > General, click on the Advanced button in the bottom right corner - If the button is greyed out, click on the lock icon and enter your administrators password)

If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.

To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

That did it... Thank you, just for anyone else who may need this info:

System Preferences --> Security & Privacy --> General --> Unlock --> Advanced (low R corner) --> Disable remote control infrared receiver.
