'The file "Untitled" couldn't be opened.'

I keep on getting this message when I try to open Keynotes and Pages documents: 'The file “Untitled” couldn’t be opened.' Now I can't open my recent documents, and I can't save new ones either. I am pretty sure it has something to do with iCloud, but it is very annoying because I can't access any documents (I can access older ones). It has happened before, and I tried doing what some people suggested: System Preferences > iCloud, and then unchecking the iCloud tab and then checking it again. That worked the first time, but it hasn't worked this time.

Well, the good old reboot.

It is standard procedure for me that as soon as I commence a new Pages document, I immediately save it to a realistic name other than Untitled.pages. Once I have done that, I also know that Pages autosave is now active about every 15 seconds, Revert To history is accumulating, and on an hourly basis — time machine is capturing local and iCloud Drive documents. On iCloud, it takes a variable amount longer for autosave accounting for the state of the Internet between the Mac and iCloud servers.

I have been using Pages v5 since it was released — with and without iCloud/iCloud Drive, and three years of OS X releases/updates. I have never had an issue opening or saving a document from/to iCloud — unless it was explainable due to a network outage. I am always running the latest available Pages v5 release, and OS X update. My Mac is shutdown every night before I go to bed, and is powered on every morning around 7am. I do not run any anti-virus, any so-called Mac cleaner applications, or any third-party security products.
