Question

Macbook Air Detects Apple tv for audio, but not Video

I have mid-13 macbook air, running el captain with all updates applied and an appleTV also with newest software availabel.

I also have an older macbook pro running yosemite.

My macbook pro can airplay to apple TV both audio and video with no problems.

My macbook air, however, is able to stream audio to the appletv, but no video.

When I open display options, the airplay menu only shows the OFF option.

Can someone help me with this one?

What was your resolution (I mean to the problem, not your screen pixelation)? Please advise; as having same issue: one macbookpro works just fine, but another shows just a black screen when it connects; audio but no video 😟

On the MacBook Air, go to System Preferences > Display. Check the box at the bottom: "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available."

It was already checked.

Again, in the menu bar, I can only see it is OFF , and I have no option to change it.

I do not know what you mean by "display options".

When you click the display symbol on the menu bar as shown below, do you see this?

No.

All I see is:

AirPlay: OFF (this one light gray, showing that you cant change it)

Open Display Preferences... (this one highlighted, and then when I click I go to the pref pane, where I find Airplay OFF, and again no option to change )

However, as I said, when I go to sounds on pref pane, I can find the airplay option, the apple tv and it works.

Sound is airplayed.

I really appreciate you r help.

But I've been through all this....

My firewall is turned off as default.

As I said, I can connect to the appletv to send audio.

It is just the video that cant be airplayed.

However bizarre it may seems, it is happening.

I even downloaded airparrot, and it works nicely on this app.

But I really want to use the native apple solution!!

Thanks for posting the screen shots. They are helpful.

If it were my machine, I would immediately suspect AirParrot as getting in AirPlay Mirroring's way. Check this article:

It does not explicitly say AirParrot conflicts with AirPlay Mirroring, but I would certainly suspect it does!

It's quite a coincidence you have sound but no picture. And think about how old this AirParrot product is. Also consider it is not available in the Mac's App Store.

Actually I installed Airparrto AFTER the issue, to be sure there was not a problem with Apple TV.

Installing, uninstalling, reisntalling have no effect at all on the issue.
