Can I use my MacBook pro as a monitor?

Hi everyone,

I just bought a new late 2015 iMac 27" and wanted to use my mid-2012 15" Retina MacBook Pro as a second monitor to the iMac. Is this possible? Both have Thunderbolt, I have a cable, but can't seem to figure it out. Can the MacBook be used with Target Display Mode? Or would I have to use some third party software?

Does anyone know of any third party software that would help me?

Thank you!

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), iOS 9.3.2

You are correct.

So I may need to find some third party solution from what I'm seeing. The issue is the 3rd party software will share the screen over WIFI which will have some lag. That might be the only option. We'll see.

That is indeed the only option. IIRC, Screen Recycler is one of the apps that does this. Unfortunately, from several posts I've seen here, it has such bad lag that it is basically unusable, unless you want to wait for every action/movement to show up on the iMac.
