Q: The new font is hard to read

The new light gray font is hard to read in the new AD software. Could you please go back to black being the default?

Edit: Even though I'd changed the font color to black, when my message posted it had been changed to the gray. I had to resort to BOLD to make it readable.

    Agreed.   I find color: #0088cc  a pleasant  half-way point.

Tragically that is the modern trend. And Apple appears to be leading that trend. I have noticed on many programs the text is quite difficult to read. I find this especially frustrating on iPhone. I have many apps and Mac programs that show light gray text, on a medium gray background. Clearly, the programmers choosing these fonts are 19 years old and have 20/10 vision.  I envy them.

This is typed in #0088cc. On my screen while typing it looks blue; is that correct?

Let's see if it displays the same.

Opps swary—pasted the wrong color, here is the correction:  color: #454545  The default font does not do it justice.

OK, this does look better. Now to see how it looks after I post it.

Still very bad IMO. We need the normal thicker black back but I hope I am not dreaming!!!

I guess we'll just have to post in bold!

There are workarounds in Minimal CSS tweaks for ASC. Posting in bold is OK for you to read what you've posted, but won't help with reading stuff from others.

That is all well and good but it doesn't help me or the rest of us. We are not the Apple webmasters; they are who should fix this.

Don't know where you are at (don't tell me). I am in the US, Texas. I am going to try tt2's tweaks tomorrow morning. He is a highly proficient and respected member of this community and no doubt his tweaks will work. I agree that the ASC should fix this but in the meantime we can use his workaround. No other choices until the PTB change the layout - a big IF.

I don't know how to code so it still won't help me.   Now if someone could write an patch that we non-techies could just install into any version of Mac OS to fix the poor design, they'd make a mint!

BTW, that is another problem with this new version of the forums: they removed the location that was under your avatar.

You do not need to learn how to code to change the font color.

Instructions are here. You have three versions to try.

I agree with you Ziatron, this is truly tragic.  I have perfect vision and I'm struggling to read postings here now without eye strain.  It's the same effect you get when printing with a dried up old inkjet cartridge.  It may be sadly trendy, but like many other design choices Apple has made in recent years, it greatly reduces usability and accessibility - both things Apple used to excel at supporting.  And it also seems like all the color is being drained out of the chrome everywhere.  What is so wrong with a little color in the chrome to celebrate us having color vision as humans?  It reminds me of that iconic 1984 Mac commercial in which the sad people were living in a drab grey faded world until Apple came to the rescue.  It's just insane that Apple came so far in great UI design, only to willingly devolve to that which they once saved us from.  It's not insanely great, just insane.
