Q: How to monitor applications and services internet usage?

Is there any app that monitors how much every application or service send and receive bytes on my mac? I know activity monitor does that, but I need an app that stores the information and actually shows me a history of how much data has been downloaded and uploaded from and on my mac during a certain amount of time. Activity monitor only shows bytes downloaded and uploaded when the process is active; and when it no longer is, the process disappears from the list.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

No third-party app is necessary to do what you are asking. You have two options that will require you to use CLI (command line interface).

    1) You can use the terminal (located in the "Other" folder in Applications) and type the "netstat" command (without the quotes) to review all activity on your network. Using "netstat -l" will display the statistics for all of your network interfaces.

    2) If you want more specific information about network usage, you may run the terminal and use the "nettop" command to get a list of all network activity by process. Once you have run the command and you see the list of processes, press "p" to convert the data into a more readable format.

Hopefully my suggestions help you out. If not, best of luck with finding the answer that you seek.
