Transferring software to new macbook air

Before buying a new macbook air I wish to know if I can transfer old Office and Adobe Illustrator software from my macbook, running OS 10.5.8, using Time Machine. If this is not possible what else can I do to transfer the software?

Thanks

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Mac OS X 10.5 is SIX generations behind the current El Capitan version. It is possible, but not likely, that some software will be compatible. In any case, you'll need to check each one of your major apos to see if it is compatible and/or if updates are available to you.

Because of the age difference between systems, you should not attempt to restore your apps using Time Machine. You should install them afresh, after checking their compatibility.

For moving your documents, data and settings, you should use Migration Assistant, rather than restoring from TM.
