Q: changed Apple ID password not working on MacBook Air iCloud settings

I changed my Apple ID password, and it works for iCloud.com and several devices, except for the iCloud settings on my MacBook Air.  When I put in the password it just doesn't accept it and asks me to put in my iCloud password.  Thanks.

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)
