Q: deleting a podcast

I am using iTunes 12.4.1.6 in Windows 7

I have subscribed to numerous podcasts over the years and many of these have stopped producing.

I wanted to clean up my library and decided to delete a number of the old podcasts.

If a podcast is still "live" on iTunes the delete went fine.

If the podcast was no longer available on iTunes the episodes deleted fine but the banner in the podcast library doesn't not delete regardless of any effort I can devise.

If the podcast has changed it artwork on iTunes the same banner problem exists.

If I change my view to "Classic List" none of the deleted podcasts appear.

Can someone suggest a solution

    Hey newmac4664,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! Looks like you are having some issues deleting old podcast banners and artwork from your PC? I understand the importance of having those completely removed. We can try a few things to see if we can get that taken care of. The first step I would suggest is to check your default podcast settings. Here, you can Refresh, Limit episodes, Download episodes and Delete played episodes. Selecting the correct settings for deleting played episodes may remove any remnants of the outdated podcast.

Another tip is to manage the podcasts via the "My Podcasts" tab in your iTunes app. If you have a free iCloud account, your podcast subscriptions, stations, and current play position sync to the Podcasts app on your iOS devices (if available). I would check to see if you are able to manage the podcasts at iCloud.com or your IOS device. there as well. The links below have detailed steps to get that accomplished.

    About the Podcasts app

iTunes 12 for Windows: Download podcasts

iTunes 12 for Windows: Default podcast settings

    Sign into iCloud

The steps above should allow you to get rid of the entire out dated Podcast

    Have a great day!

Thanks for the information - here is what happens.

The podcast settings are set 'off' for limit episodes and "on" for download and delete episodes. If I change them, the only change that sticks is the limit episodes option. There is no Refresh option. I do not use iCloud. I tried all the variables with no success, and I am still stuck with the old artwork.

Because the classic view does not have this issue I suspect that there is an inherent bug in the IOS and the solution to the problem  has nothing to do with correct settings. I can delete and re-subscribe and re-delete podcasts that are currently "live" so there must be some piece of code hanging about that has an issue with old artwork.

Thanks again for trying to help
