Photos import - line through pictures

I have a folder of high quality .jpg files that I have imported. Most pictures have a digital line through the pictures that is sometimes quite apparent and sometimes not. These lines are NOT in the original files. It seem the import process has created these lines. I have tried importing 3 times with the same results. The folder contains about 400 photos. Is this a known problem? Any idea for solutions? Thanks!

This drove me crazy til today. I'm an avid photographer. No way to get my pics onto my iPad except via email. most of pics have black lines on the right side ruining my future posts. I found a couple of "sometimes works" fixes and then I discovered this today.

Download Photoshop Express. It's free from Adobe. Simple pull your bad pics in, resave them, and viola, lines magically disappear. As a matter of fact, when you're selecting the pics from your gallery, they don't even appear!!

I Have no idea what's up with the iPad. Looks like the files are actually undamaged, but for some reason the iPad is showing and posting them damaged. Strange.

I Hope this helps all of you frustrated photographers like me. Purely coincidental that I stumbled on this today.

No - it is not a known problem - in fact it is known that importing does not modify images in any way - it just does a bit for bit copy

open one of these original photos in the original folder using Preview and see what you have - then drag that photo to the Photos icon in the Dock and import and look at it in Photos

what are the results?

another test you can do is to export the unmodified original (file menu ==> export -- unmodified original) and look at it with Preview

what are the pixel dimensions of these photos? What is their source?

Well this is interesting... here's what I did:

Background: ~400 high resolution jpg's (wedding pictures from professional photographer from USB drive)

1) Transferred all files to macbook.

2) Tried above (imported all photos): current problem resulted.

----Read response-----------

3) Opened single photo in preview: no problem.

4) Imported same photo individually into Photos: no problem!

5) Imported first 50 photos: same problem (random pixel-like lines through pictures)

6) Kicker: opened same picture (and others) individually in Preview: Lines and half of picture is grey like computer is having a hard time opening.

Is my computer underpowered to be handling these files? They are about 15Mb each. My specs below:

-MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011)

-1.7 GHz Intel Core i5

-4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

-Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB

Thanks!

I had the exact same problem and was able to solve it by:

1. Logged out of the username and logged back in

2. Turned off Time Machine backup

3. Unplugged my iPhone from my iMac

4. Since I still have the photos on my phone, I deleted all the photos with gray lines from Photos. Then went to "Recently Deleted" and deleted the photos from there as well.

5. Plugged my iPhone back into the iMac. Selected my phone under "Import".

6. Chose smaller batches of 300-500 photos at a time to import.

7. Photos were imported again - This time without the gray lines.
