Hi! I am trying to create the ultimate Father's Day present & need some help. I copied & burned my family's home movies onto my computer. I'm trying to convert them however needed so that I can use & edit them down in Final Cut Pro. I downloaded the MacX DVD Ripper Pro, but it kept quitting on me. Any suggestions??

IF you copied them to your computer you should be able to import them directly Into Final Cut without using a third party app. as for the DVD, if you want the best menus, find boxed set of the iLife suite of apps from an online retailer and use iDVD to create the DVD. Alternatively, check out Roxio Toast.

The DVD native video file isn't supported by FCPX, use MpegStreamClip to rip them from the DVD, into ProRes for editing in FCPX.
MPEG Streamclip is great, but there is a difficulty: in order to convert the movie from the DVD, it needs the Quicktime MPEG2 Playback Component, a $20 purchase from Apple, which I believe is no longer available. So unless the OP already has that, another option is necessary. HandBrake will work.
LUis, you are correct that the Playback Component has been pulled from available downloads.
NOt sure I'm reading the OPs post correctly but I guessed that he or she created a data DVD, which is why I didn't recommend say, Handbeake.
