Pairing a ComPilot with an iMac

Has anyone been able to pair a Phonak ComPilot with an iMac using El Capitan? I had no trouble paring it with my iPhone and iPad but the Mac refuses to find the device on the Bluetooth preferences.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.0.x)

According to a support document (see link below) on the Phonak web site you need to use a Sennheiser USB adapter to use the Phonak ComPilot with a computer. Once the Phonak ComPilot is paired with the USB adapter you can then choose it as the sound output device in System Preferences > Sound.

Note the support document does not have Mac specific instructions but what I outlined above should work.

Hi Gino_Cerullo,

Many thanks for that link. The suggestion that worked for me is to turn off Bluetooth on my iPhone and iPad then do the pairing with the iMac. (The iMac won't let you turn off Bluetooth if you are using a wireless keyboard and mouse.) The ComPilot initially shows as a speaker but when you click "Pair" it then shows in the list of appliances as the Compilot. You can then turn Bluetooth on again on the iPhone and iPad. With the iMac the sound tends to break up (unlike the iPhone and iPad which give excellent sound) but for most purposes it works well.

Best wishes,

Gerry

Glad I could help find a solution for you. As for the sound breaking up, if it becomes unbearable then you might have to resort to using the Sennheiser USB adapter. Not sure that will solve the problem but it might since it is specialized for sound. You could do a Google search for "Sennheiser USB adapter and Hearing Aids" and see what other people's experiences with it are like.
