Q: What does "sessions" mean in App Analytics?

In the App Analytics Overview screen in itunes Connect, theres a statistic named Sessions. What exactly is a session?

I have an app on the store, and Im tracking it's progress. So I'd like to know what sessions and possibly active devices mean?
