Q: SMC issues
Hello,
I recently had some issues with my Macbookpro8,1 (13", early 2011), involving random slowness and battery issues : the computer would some times refuse to recognize the battery, and would get very slow. I thought this was due to a defect in the SMC, so i tried to reset it.
However, my control key is broken, so i changed the EFI bootloader to a custom one, to access a shell in order to reinstall a clean version of the SMC from apple's database (I got it from un packing the file on this webpage : About EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Mac computers - Apple Support). Which i shouldn't have done, cause now my computer is unusable. The battery issue seems to be gone, but it takes hours (really) to boot, and once on it's too slow to do anything.
The custom EFI isn't the problem, as the computer worked fine after installing it (but before resetting the SMC)
I tried resetting the SMC again, without reinstalling the version,
I tried using apple diagnostics, but i can't access them,
I'm on El Capitan, i thought reverting to snow leopard might solve the problem, but i can't find the CD.
I'm really at a loss here, i don't know what to do next,
Thank you for your help,
Julien
