Q: ATV streaming lag.

When I attempt to watch Netflix or Stan (Australian streaming service) via ATV3, it'll play for about a minute and then do nothing for about 30 seconds. Rinse repeat. It doesn't do this with other streaming services (youtube, iTunes) or on any other device.

I have an NBN connection at an average speed of 10mbps, according to my ATV my signal strength is full bars. I've tried downgrading from HD to SD. I've reset, restored and paused to buffer, there are no updates available. This issue is new(ish) to me and started very suddenly (no updates etc).

The only suggestion I've come across that I haven't tried is connecting to the internet via ethernet rather than wifi. Unfortunately due to location of my hardware, this isn't a possibility.

Suggestions?

First, are you using the DNS from your internet provider: DNS at ATV and router both set to Auto?
Second, you should review the items here, Get help with Wi-Fi networks on your Apple TV - Apple Support, and especially check for interference, see Potential sources of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference - Apple Support. Since the problem has just popped up, there may be some change in your environment that causes it. Note that strong signal from your network is not sufficient, since there may also be strong interferers. Change to 5 GHz only, if possible, since there is less interference there.

You might try relaunching those apps or even deleting them and installing them again.
