Q: After iOS Update 9.3.2, I Can't Transfer Photos To My PC

I installed iOS 9.3.2 update on my iPhone 4s. A few days ago I realized I was low on storage space. I have collected to many photos of my grandkids and other less important things. 1249 photos to be exact. I started the process I use to transfer photos to my Windows 10 Pro PC. After connecting the iPhone to the PC, a few times, the PC recognized it in File Explorer. I located the iPhone in the list. I opened it. I clicked on "Internal Storage". It was empty. There was no "DCIM" folder or any files, like there has always been before. Is there something I'm doing wrong or did Apple introduce a new method to transfer photos in the iOS 9.3.2 update?

    Howdy, PINETREE01!

I see this is your first post to the Apple Support Communities. Welcome! You're in the right place for help. It's important to be able to import your photos.

The method you're using to import photos is expected to still work. Since you've seen it misbehave, it's a good idea to restart both the computer and iPhone and try again. If that doesn't help, we have a guide for the next steps: If you can‘t import photos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer

    Specifically, try these steps:

    Check for updates

    1. Check for updates to your photo-management software and iTunes.
    2. Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
    3. Update your Mac or PC. In Windows, use the Windows Update application.

Try to import the photos again

First, try the steps to import the photos to your computer again. Then try these steps:

    1. Create a new photo to import. You can save a screenshot on your iOS device by pressing the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
    2. Connect your iOS device to your computer.
    3. Try to import your photos again using your photo-management software. You can also try these steps on your PC:

      • Mac: Open Image Capture in the Applications folder.
      •
      • Windows 8: Move the cursor to the upper-right corner, click the magnifying glass, enter Computer, and press Return. Right-click your device under Portable Devices (if present) and choose Import Photos.
      •
      • Windows 7: Choose Start > Computer. Under Portable Devices, right-click the device and choose Import Photos.
    4. If your computer doesn't see your device, make sure your device trusts the computer.

    Enjoy your week!

Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB - Apple Support

It sounds as though the photos you are seeing on your iPhone may be there through a sync service. This may be by the method found above through iTunes sync or it could be through iCloud Photo Library sync. Through iTunes, just follow the article and navigate to the Photos tab in iTunes under your iPhone summary screen on the computer. Click the checkbox next to sync photos if it is presently checked, and after you hit Apply in the lower right, choose to remove from the iPhone. This will only remove photos you have already synced to the computer before.

The second option I mentioned was iCloud Photo Library. This may be found under Settings>iCloud>Photos. If you find this toggled on, you can toggle it off and you can remove your photos from your iPhone this way.

I was able to transfer photos from my old iphone 4s earlier today; however, the same process did not work when I attempted to transfer photos from my iphone 6 just now. I'm running Windows xp on a laptop and I followed the same process as I did with my 4s:

-Start: Control Panel: System: Hardware: Device Manager: Universal Serial USB controllers: Apple Mobile Device USB Driver: (right click) Update Driver

    -My Computer: Apple iphone

When I did this with my 4s, all my photos were there and I transferred them with no problem. With my iphone 6, the photos are there but I cannot open them or transfer them. When I attempt to open them, it says, "No preview available." I can see some of the photos as thumbnails and these do not open as a preview and I cannot transfer them.

I did not update to 9.3.2 on my 4s, but I did on my 6. Please help! I have over 1,000 photos that I would like to transfer. Thank you.

Windows XP will not support the iPhone 6 and iOS 9.3.2. It is probably not loading the correct driver, especially since you cannot install the correct version of iTunes. That is what is preventing you from importing the photos. You need the correct USB driver for the iPhone 6. Do you have access to another computer, with a newer version of Windows? You may need to use that to import the photos and then copy them to a flash drive to get onto your computer. You will need to update to a newer computer OS. Windows XP is no longer supported with iTunes.

    For Windows 10 and iPhone 4s;

    - Find "Apple iPhone" on "This PC" section via "File Explorer",

    - "Right Click" on "Apple iPhone" and click "Import pictures and videos",

    - Wait a while and your phone asks for permission to allow the pc to connect, tap "Allow" on phone,

    - After Windows scan, it finds your photos and videos to import where you want to save; select as default "Review, organize, and group items to import" and click "Next",

    - On final step, you can import them to your computer.
