Q: Shared photos not high res?

I take photos on my 8GB iphone (sometimes).

I don't keep icloud on my phone so it does fill my phone with downloaded photos.

I share the iphone photos, then download them on my 64GB iPod.

Delete from iPhone.

I JUST NOTICED ALL THE PHOTOS ARE LOW RES AND I ALREADY DELETED THEM

Is this normal? Why would they do this?

Which sharing option are you using?

If you are using shared albums, the shared photos may be reduced in pixel size. See:  iCloud Photo Sharing - Apple Support

When shared, photos taken with standard point-and-shoot cameras, SLR cameras, or iOS devices have up to 2048 pixels on the long edge. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

There will be no way to recover your original full resolution photos, unless you made a backup of your iPhone in iTunes before you deleted the photos.  The iTunes backup will include the contents of the camera roll.

yes, I am using iCloud Photo Sharing. I assumed it would share the original size photo

I only have an 8GB iphone. would you suggest turning on iCloud Photo Library so it uploads all of my originals to the icloud? (thats what my iPod does)

I don't do this because I assume it will fill my phone but I notices all of my 'Moments" from my iPod are on there anyhow.

How many photos do you have?  "Optimize Storage" can reduce the size of the photos to roughly 10%.  But you need storage for other documents and data as well. So iCloud Photo Library will to leave much storage for your other apps. I would not use it,

Your iPod photos probably are transferred by My Photo Stream. That transfers at the full resolution.

You could also mail or air drop your new photos, if it is supported on all your devices.  Or download the photos to a PC and only sync selected albums back to your devices with iTunes.
