Q: Please help. I keep trying to download games or any kind of app from the App Store but it won't let me . It says to go to the settings and update my debit card. Do I have to have a debit card on file to even download free apps? Thanks

Yes, normally you need to have a valid payment method associated with the card, even for free downloads.
There is a way, however, to set up (or edit) an Apple ID without a credit card. See these instructions:
