LaCie External Drive Shutdown

For no reason my LaCie external drive sends out a message that I have disconnected the drive incorrectly? I didn't disconnect the drive at all. What's happening?

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), iOS 7.0.3, Update to iPhoto & Maverick OS

The Lacie isn't sending a message, your Mac is telling you the drive has been disconnected.

FWIW, I've had nothing but bad luck with Lacie drives. I won't touch one ever again.
